2 Meses

Although this is a few days late on Friday I passed 2 months in Spain. This past month has been quite good and an experience of learning more about the Spanish culture and practicing my Spanish.

So after returning back from my 10 day adventures in Europe it was time to get back in the swing of things. During the first week back it was quite laid back just school for the days. On Thursday in the evening I met with a friend and we went for a walk. Later in the evening we met with my Spanish friend and met some of her friends and went to a club here in Sevilla called Abril. It was quite a nice time and I enjoyed listening to Spanish music. On Friday evening I went with one of friends and grabbed dinner with her and some of her friends. After we took a walk on the river. Saturday I met with two other girls in my program and we tried to visit the Cruzcampo factory, but since it was closed we headed downtown and just chilled by the river. Sunday was quite an adventure. Me and one other girl headed to Ronda, which is a city that is close to Sevilla. It was such a pretty place and had famous wineries so we went to do a wine visit on top of visiting the city. It was also a nice city to visit as it was built on top of cliffs so you can take a train to the bottom part to get a view of the entire city. By far it was one of my favorite places here in Spain.

Evening on the River

Trip to Ronda

Monday evening was a roommate night and we went to get some tapas on the river. On Wednesday I went to Centro to met with a friend of mine and we just hung out for the evening. Thursday me and some other students from my program went kayaking on the river, which was quite an experience. Later that evening we met with some friends in centro and their friends and we just walked around and hung out for some time. Friday I got up bright and early to catch the bus to Cordoba and Granada for the weekend. Our first stop was Cordoba, where we saw the Moorish Mosque that still exists in the city. After some time there we just walked around the city. In the afternoon we met back with our program and caught the bus to Granada where we were going to spend the rest of the weekend at. Once we arrived we dropped our stuff off and then went to get a view of the city. Afterwards our program took us to watch a flamenco show, which was a very fun time and great experience. After the show me and some of the girls walked around centro and we went to eat tapas. On Saturday we woke up and headed to the Alhambra, which is the famous moorish castle of the city. It was such a pretty place to see and made me super excited for my trip I will be taking to Morocco. After we finished all that we could in the Alhambra me and some of the girls changed and headed out to try and find the bus to take a trail in the Sierra Nevada. Unfortunately after getting a bus and ending up in the wrong spot we decided to give up on that hope. So instead me and one of the girls took a bus to a spot behind the Alhambra. It was such a nice trail and it pretty to see the view of the Sierra Nevada. In the evening we went to a tapas place that served international food, which was quite an experience. On Sunday morning we got up and went with our program to the cathedral of the city, and saw where Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand where buried. After which we walked around and went to the Arab market of the city and saw some last minute places of the city. Then we packed up and headed back to Sevilla.

During the week it was quite a usual week of school work and classes. On Thursday evening though me and my roommate went out with her friend for dinner. On Friday I passed the day at home as it was consent rain , but in the evening it finally cleared up. So me and a friend met up and walked around centro and enjoyed the time outside. Saturday evening I met with a friend and we went out to an international party. After sometime at the party we decided to head to centro where we walked around for sometime and then headed back home. Sunday since it cleared up a little I did a little walk around Triana, the area Im staying in. Also stopped by a famous bakery in the area.

This weekend begins Semana Santa here in Sevilla, a famous holiday that is held during Easter. I will also be going to Lisboa for the weekend and then will spend a few days in Morocco also. This next month here in Spain will be quite busy and full of many different events and special holidays from the city. So we will see how it all turns out.

This month has been such a great opportunity to get more accustomed to the Spanish culture. It has also been a good time practicing Spanish and just expanding on my knowledge. It has definitely progressed but still have a good amount to learn. My time here has been such a great experience and I look forward to what the next two months bring.

Until then

Primero mes en España

Last Friday the 20th marked my 1st month in Sevilla, Spain. And as a way to celebrate it I embarked on a 10 day trip through Europe, which is also why this post took a few days to post. But starting at the beginning.

So after we finally arrived to Sevilla on the first weekend we went and settled into our houses and also got to know the area. The first week was spent touring around Sevilla. We also had our first week of school where we got a tour of the school and went to classes to figure out what were the right classes for us. I ended up signing up for an Interpretation course, a Latin American literature course, a Latin American and USA relations, and also an Intercultural course. All of which are in Spanish, and I am quite enjoying the challenge. During that week we also explored Plaza de España, Las Setes, and Alcazar, all of which are famous spots in Sevilla. For the weekend I went out with one of my Spanish friend and went to a birthday party for an Italian (it was quite an international party).

The following week was quite mellow, since for the most part I was just in class and at home trying to get homework accomplished. I did however visit the Cathedral of Sevilla, which is the 3rd largest in the entire world. It also happens to have a breathtaking view of the city of Sevilla. During my second full weekend in Sevilla I decided to take a trip to London. Where I went to visit a friend of mine and take advantage of the opportunity to visit another city/country. The first evening nothing to exciting happened as at the airport as security was quite slow, and once through I had to take a train to the city center to meet up with my friend and to meet my other friend who I was staying with for the weekend. Finally though after what seemed like forever of traveling around 12.00 at night I arrived to my friend’s apartment and went to bed for the evening. The next morning was site seeing. So once my friend finished classes we met up and walked all around downtown London, seeing of course the usually basic sites, which was quite fun. After that we went to get thai food as my friend’s friend in their program were leaving, so it was their going away party. Once we finished dinner I headed back to the house and straight to bed. The next day was some more sight seeing, this time it was the south bank of the city. We ended up walking up and down the bank and saw a lot of the major sites in the area. We also took a visit to the Globe theatre. After walking back and forth of the bank we went back to met with my other friend and went and had a drink with her at a pub near the apartment. Since I had to get up early to begin my journey back to sevilla we called it a night earlish and headed back to the apartment. Sunday was just spent traveling back and reorganizing everything.

Durante a proxima semana era bem tranquila, porque so tinha aulas. O domingo so passei o dia viajando pra Sevilla.

Fin de Semana en Londres

London

My 3rd week I ended up battling a cold for basically the entire week, so really besides school and home I did not try to go outside to much. Though one evening me and my roommate went to the city center to meet with a Spanish friend of ours and hung out with them for some time. When the weekend came though my friend staying in London came down to visit Sevilla, so we spent the weekend site seeing. On Friday after I picked them up we went and dropped their stuff off at the hostel and proceed to go to Las Setes. Afterwards we met with some of the girls in my program and had tapas for dinner. Saturday because of my cold we had to cancel our original plans to go to Cadiz for Carnival. Instead we just did site seeing in Sevilla. So I took them to Plaza de España and Alcazar and also we went up in Torre de Oro, which shows a nice view of the river and the surrounding area. On Sunday we went to a artisan market and then we said our goodbyes and I went home for the evening.

Meu amigo me visitou em Sevilla.

My 4th week during the week was spent at school and home. On Thursday I went and met some friends and we went to get a coffee. Not much other really happened during the week. On Friday though I began my 10 day journey to varies places in Europe. To start the trip off I went to Amsterdam. Where I was greeted by one of my good friends that I met in Brasil, who happened to be from the Netherlands. And later in the evening we were greeted by our other friend from Brasil. That evening we went back to my friends place and we made chicken curry and just caught up. Saturday we woke up early and took a train into Amsterdam, as my friend lived in a nearby city. We ended up spending the day in Amsterdam and just walking around admiring all the sites. By the afternoon we decided to visit the Ice Bar that was in Amsterdam. After freezing for a little bit it was time to head back to my friends city to go to her parents house for dinner. We ended up having a very traditional Danish meal and also a section of the meal was from Suriname, which use to be a Dutch colony. After that we took my friend bike into the city and met up with some of her friends for the evening. The next morning since it was such a beautiful day outside we decided to go and visit Delft, the city that is famous for all the blue and white Dutch goods. It was such a cute and quaint city to visit. I actually enjoyed it more than Amsterdam. There we just spent the day walking around and taking in all the pretty sites. After a while of walking around we decided to head back to my friends apartment and crash for the evening, since we had an early train to Paris the next morning.

The following day we took a train bright and early to head into Paris for 3 days. Once we arrived we went and met one of my Italian friends who was living in the city. She showed us around a little and took us to the Mosque where we got some this amazing tea from. After a while there we decided to do some site seeing. So we said goodbye to my friend and walked down to the river and visited Norte Dame Cathedral, and the surrounding area. After a while of walking around and it was time to go and check into our hostel. So we caught the metro and train and went to the hostel for the evening. Since we were so tired from all the traveling and just made dinner and went to bed for the evening. The next day we woke up and basically travelled all over Paris to see as much as we possible could. We started the day off by going to Torre de Montparnasse, which has the best view of the city. After spending some time there we went over to check out the Effiel Tower. We also decided to climb the steps to the 2nd floor (since the top you must take an elevator). Once we accomplished that and got a nice view of the city we descending and went to the front part of the tower to see from a longer distance. After that and after the rain passed we went to the Arc de Triomphe, also which I climbed to get a view of the city. Once done there we went to Montmare and saw the basilica and yet again another view of the city. Then we took a quite stop by the Moulin Rouge and proceed to another section of the city. We also passed by Place de la bastille, which is symbolic for the French revolution. And before heading back to the hostel we decided to stop by the Effiel tower again to see it at night, which is a site to see.  The next day we woke up early but since there was rain we decided it was a perfect day for the museums. So we ended starting our visit by seeing the Musee D’Orsay. It was so nice to see all the different paintings, especially the Van Gogh part of the museum. After spending the morning there it was time to go the Lourve. It was such a great place to visit just to see all the amazing artwork that is stored there. Once done spending a few hours there we went to meet with my friend that I had met the semester before my exchange year to Italy. It was quite nice catching up with her. When we finished there it was time to go back to the hostel as I had to be up by 6am to catch my train to Brussels. The next morning I woke up went to catch my train to Brussels, Belgium. Once I arrived into Brussels I was greeted by my Italian friend, who was now studying in Brussels. We ended up walking around the city and she showed me different places. Unfortunately my time in Brussels was limited as I had to take a plane to Switzerland later that evening. I did however enjoy the time I spent seeing Brussels. Thursday night I went and caught my plane to head to my last country of the adventure, Switzerland. I was going back to visit my exchange sister who stayed with my family 8 years ago. It was so great seeing her again and being back to a familiar place. On Friday morning we got up but unfortunately it was snowing outside. Although this was so we still managed to walk around the city some and get to revisit some places. We also went to a museum that has a private collection of Picasso artwork. After walking around some we decided to go and get a café. For the evening we went to her mom’s place where we had a nice dinner and catch up time. After our time there we had to leave to go catch a movie at the bar/theatre that she works out. Although we did not quite understand the movie it was quite a nice time. The following morning we got up and with her sister and sister’s daughter we went up the mountain to take a trail through the alps. When we arrived to the end of the trail we went to a local café/restaurant where we took a café and also I tried a Swiss cake. After sometime we headed back down the mountain and went to make dinner, since we were having one of her friends come and visit. We ended up making a traditional Swiss meal and relaxing for the evening. This morning I said my goodbyes and began my journey back to Sevilla.

O próximo dia eu acordei cedinho e peguei meu trem pra Brussel.
